CONFIDENCE AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Do you want to get more confident with something or learn a new skill?

Big Life confidence and capacity building workers can help you to learn or increase your independence in nearly any aspect of your life. This support can include the development and use of checklists, picture boards or other resources that help you to learn and manage tasks more independently.

Some examples include learning to or becoming more confident to use public transport, a computer, socialising and making new friends, cooking your own meals or going on walks independently.

COMMUNITY ACCESS AND PARTICIPATION

Big Life can help you to do something in the community that makes you happy!

A participant can engage a support worker to assist them to attend, explore, access and engage with their community in ways that are meaningful to them.

This support is directed by what you want. Where one person might choose to attend a regular routine activity like swimming every week. Another might prefer to decide spontaneously what they want to do each time.

WE ARE ALSO ABLE TO PROVIDE

  • Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions and supports;

  • Assistance with travel/transport arrangements;

  • Innovative community participation;

  • Development of daily care and life skills;

  • Household tasks;

  • Participation in community, social and civic activities;

  • Specialised Supported Employment; and

  • Group and centre-based activities.

SUPPORT COORDINATION

A Support Coordinator works with you to help you learn about and understand all aspects of NDIS. They will support you to understand and make the most out of your NDIS plan and increase your ability to independently navigate the NDIS world.

Some of the things a Support Coordinator can provide help with are:

  • Support you to learn more about the NDIS and assist you to make your plan work for you;

  • Help you identify your goals and choose quality informal, mainstream, community and NDIS funded supports and services to meet those goals;

  • Assist you to find the right service providers, negotiate prices and service agreements, as well as review, change and terminate service agreements where necessary;

  • Communicate with you, your support team, carers and service providers;

  • Help you to ensure you get good quality services that are consistent with what you have asked for

  • Provide you with assistance and support to resolve issues with service providers;

  • Assist you with referrals and quotes for necessary community supports, assessments and equipment;

  • Assist you to review your progress, achievements, goals and prepare for your plan review; and

  • Provide you, your services and NDIS with periodic reports on your changing needs, goals and progress.
